Just One Of Those Days...

And I'm glad it's over!

Remember that story, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day? Well, I think I could write the sequel after the day we've had!

Things were fine, at first. Adele slept in a little bit, so we got up around 8. Since she had slept in, she was ready for breakfast right away. That's when the trouble started. I had put some yogurt and a jar of baby food into one of her bowls, and set it on the table. Then I started getting my own breakfast ready. I heard a loud crash and turned around to find yogurt and baby food everywhere. All over the floor, her high chair, her PJ's, and even on Cookie! I guess Adele was close enough to the table that she could reach the bowl, and she knocked it right off the table. My bad!

After I got her cleaned up (and fed her a second bowl of the yummy mix), we headed upstairs so I could shower. I have a bunch of toys in our bathroom that she plays with while I shower. She wasn't at all interested in the toys today. She screamed the entire time, which I felt horrible about! As soon as I was dry, we headed downstairs for a change of scenery. What a change! There was garbage all over the downstairs! I had left the garbage can out after cleaning up Adele's mess, and yogurt happens to be Cookie's favorite "people food." She had licked all of the paper towels clean and carried "goodies" (wrappers, dirty kleenex, paper towles, etc) into every room! ARGH! Again, it was my fault because I had meant to take the bag of trash out after cleaning up the breakfast mess, but I must have forgot, and the trash can doesn't have a lid.

I pretended to be mad at Cookie, and made her stay outside while I cleaned the mess, but I couldn't really blame her, could I?

Adele fought her nap. I was taking her to get pictures taken, so I didn't want her to have bags under her eyes, but what could I do? She rested for a few minutes while I printed off coupons for her pictures, but she never slept. Needless to say, she wasn't exactly smiley at her photo shoot. She did take a couple cute pictures, but it was like pulling teeth just to get her to smile. Of course, while we waited for our proofs, she smiled up a storm for the lady at Starbucks, and the other woman at the photo place. (I partly blame our photographer for this one, she clearly had not worked with many babies.)

When we got home, we had yet another surprise waiting for us. Cookie has a football toy that is stuffed with tiny little styrofoam beads. I have had to sew it a few times because the beads find their way out of the seams. It was actually supposed to be put away because it had sprung a new hole, but Adele got to it yesterday and had it mixed in with her toys. I hadn't put it away yet, so Cookie got to it. (Hmm...whose fault do you suppose that was?) Well, there was no repairing it this time. Cookie had basically destroyed it, and it looked like it had snowed in the living room.

Adele basically refused to eat her lunch, aside from some puffs and cheese, but that's nothing new. She took a decent nap and I was able to do some of the cleaning I had actually planned on doing today.

At dinner, Adele was fussy again. I ended up feeding her bananas on my lap because I wanted her to eat SOMETHING. What do you know, she threw up. (Thank goodness for plastic bibs with pockets is all I can say about that!) I guess she wasn't just being fussy afterall. Poor little baby! She had a little fever and just wanted to snuggle. She ended up playing a little with Daddy while I cleaned up, but then went to bed early. She's already fussed twice, and I have a feeling it's going to be a long night. (We don't make her cry when she's sick...)

Surprisingly (to me, at least) despite all of our troubles today, I was able to just laugh everything off.

I know I promised pictures, but it's House and Fringe night so I'm BUSY!!! (Plus, I deserve a little break after the day that I've had!)

We're Home!

We arrived home safe and sound yesterday after a crazy but fun Thanksgiving weekend!

Adele got to see all of her relatives in just a few short days! She was such a trooper on this vacation! She is getting to be an old pro at riding in the car! She generally slept for about an hour for each leg of our journey, and spent the other 2-plus hours happily entertaining herself (with the help of whichever parent was sitting in the back with her). That's good, because of our 5 day trip, 4 days were spent driving at least 3 hours...argh!

In Wisconsin, Adele ate got some "just because" presents from Memaw (clothes and toys, fun fun fun!). She looked so cute in her new outfits! She also played with Gramps' silly mustache. She had a blast opening and closing the kitchen cupboards too! She slept well both nights there...yay! And she even took a nap for us!

At Tim and Laura's, Adele had fun playing with one of James' toys (now we know what to get her for Christmas!) She also loved the Christmas tree (and it's ornaments!). She and James had some really cute moments while trying to "share" his toys. I think we have some of them on film, so stay tuned!

She also went to her first parade! There was a "Santa Parade" on Saturday. It was all of 10 minutes long (if that) but that was just about the perfect length for a baby! There were sirens that were a bit too loud for her, but other than that, she enjoyed watching the parade. She really loved the different "characters" (Pooh Bear, and elf, etc) handing out candy!

On Saturday night, we thought it would be fun to give Adele and James their baths together. It was fun for about two minutes, then I washed Adele's hair and it was all over. She cried like she was in pain! She hasn't been that upset at bath time in a long time (...like 6 or 7 months!) We tried to distract her, but she was done for. I guess it didn't help that it was already almost bedtime when we started the bath. (That was mostly my fault...we wanted to give her her medicine before the bath so that she wouldn't get her PJ's all sticky afterward.) Oh well. James didn't mind finishing the bath by himself, and Adele was clean, so that's all that mattered. Maybe next time, babies.

Fortunately she has gotten much better about taking her medicine, thank goodness! I was dreading having to give it to her myself in the mornings after Daddy leaves for work!

Last night Adele didn't sleep all that well, but she paid me back by taking a two hour nap this morning! I was shocked! When I put her down, I immediately started putting up Christmas decorations. I wanted to hurry in case she woke up. Well...the house is now decorated (and dusted, for that matter!). I couldn't believe she slept so long! I'm not expecting another nap like that anytime soon, but it was nice to get some work done while she rested!

Hopefully I'll have some pictures to post later, right now Cookie needs to be brushed...

Untitled

I don't seem to have a title for today.

Yesterday was a crazy day. I ran Adele and I all over town going to doctor's appointments. We both have sinus infections, and are both on antibiotics (gee, would've been nice if the doctor would've just given me some medicine LAST week, eh...then MAYBE Adele wouldn't be so sick too).

Anyhow, after running around all day, we packed up and headed up to Uncle Tim's for the night (Adele slept some on the ride up...yay!) and then today we drove to Memaw and Gramps'. (Adele slept in the car today, too...good girl!)

We get to stay put for tomorrow and then head back to Uncle Tim's for a whirlwind tour of the Midwest!

Mommy's Little Helper

So, today Adele decided to "help" me wash the windows:

I have two thoughts: 1) Yum, Yum! and 2) Can you say blackmail?

Oh, Those Toes!

Adele found Cookies feet again yesterday, here she is, pruning away:

Ten Months...Continued

I feel SO much better now! I had a migraine, but my silly cold/sinus infection had me fooled into thinking that it was "just" a sinus headache...no wonder the tylenol wasn't working!

Thank goodness I decided to go ahead and try some migraine medicine! (I don't usually take migraine medicine unless I'm SURE I have a migraine because if it's really a sinus headache, the medicine doesn't work at all, so I end up "wasting" it...and it's EXPENSIVE! Unfortunately it can sometimes be very hard to figure out which kind of headache I have!)

Anyway....

To celebrate Adele's ten month "birthday" (or because we were too lazy/sick/whatever to cook) we went to Puccini's for dinner. I ordered Miss Adele some food off the menu for the first time ever. They had a "special" for little ones called the "finger plate" or something like that, which consisted of cheese, crackers and black olives.

Man oh man, did that little girl like her black olives! (well, I guess that's not entirely true...she liked the first few, but then just started sucking out the juice, and then spitting the olive back out). Just more proof that she is, indeed, my daughter. She may look just like Daddy, but she has my taste buds! I guess that's why Daddy won't let her even try coffee until she's in high school!

As I reported earlier, she was up WAY TOO EARLY (4:30) this morning because of her terrible cough. It sounds like it's going to be another long night, the poor little girl just keeps hacking away. We elevated her mattress, and I gave her benadryl to hopefully "dry" her up, but neither seems to be working yet. At least my headache is gone and my sore throat is manageable...oh, and it's the weekend, so if I end up staying up all night again, I know I can rest and nap some tomorrow while Daddy watches over Miss Adele. I don't know what I would've done without him today. He took both girls for a walk, took Adele swimming, put her down for her afternoon nap (and found it incredibly hard to lay her into her crib after she nuzzled into his shoulder...ahh...), and kept her entertained on top of continuing to babyproof the kitchen!

Have I mentioned that Adele is pretty smitten with her Daddy? She looks at him with such awe, and will look for him when he's not in the room. Sometimes when he leaves she cries like its the end of the world (fortunately that doesn't last long....for now) until I distract her. Yes, she is definitely a "Daddy's Girl" (But who wouldn't be with such a great Daddy!)

She doesn't really seem to notice me...probably because I'm almost always with her. (I typed that to make myself feel better).

But...this morning, when Daddy let me go back to sleep for an hour (I told you he was SuperDad today), Adele crawled up the stairs to see me...yes, ME! (And don't worry, Daddy was right behind her on the stairs). I actually got to witness the huge smile as it spread across her face at the sight of me. Talk about melting your heart!

Okay, I better stop blogging now, or I'm going to just have to go into that little girl's room and scoop her up out of her crib and snuggle her all night long! (of course, I might as well anyway...with the sound of that cough, she's not going to be sleeping through the night tonight!)

Ten Months!

Happy 10 month birthday, Adele!

Right now you are swimming with Daddy while I'm at home *resting*. You weren't feeling well this morning, and NEEDED Mommy from 4:30 until 7 or so when you decided to be up for the day. I don't mind though....you're still my little cutie pie! Daddy let me sleep for an hour or so once he got up, but I'm exhausted, and still not feeling well myself. I can't wait for you guys to get home so I can snuggle you!
