Happy One Month Birthday, Anna!

Our baby girl is one month old today! Oh how time flies!

When she was born, we swore that even though she was a bigger baby than Adele, Anna seemed MUCH smaller, well, either our memories were faulty, or Anna is growing at a phenomenal rate. She has outgrown most of her 0-3 month clothing, including her sleep sacks, She has a doctor's appointment on Wednesday, so I'll see how officially "big" she is then, but I know that Adele wore her sleep sacks well into her second month, and she was in the 95th percentile for height...

In addition to all the growing she's been doing, Anna has had a busy month!
She has...

Met all 4 of her grandparents, along with some of her aunts and uncles and several friends
Been to 3 free summer parks concerts (with many more to come, we hope!)
Been to the Indianapolis Zoo, Conner Prairie, the YMCA and the Children's Museum
Gone grocery shopping at Kroger (exciting, I know!)
Stayed at a hotel in downtown Indy
Met Super Why, Clifford, and a ton of other PBS characters
Been out to eat at Puccini's (twice!) and the Roost
Transitioned from her co-sleeper in Mommy's bed to her own crib
Fallen asleep ON HER OWN at least twice (once in her crib!)
Worn cloth diapers
Outgrown Pampers' newborn size diapers (Adele didn't do this until she was 7 or 8 weeks old!)
Slept a 6-hour stretch at night (twice, I think!)
Completely melted the hearts of her entire family!!! (We love you, baby Anna!)

And, even though she's growing up, she still...
Hates the sling and the Baby Bjorn
Strongly dislikes "tummy time"
Prefers mommy to just about anyone else (although Daddy has his moments!)
Hasn't quite figured out her days/nights

I'm sure there's more, but Daddy's not here to remind me, and sadly, we don't take as many pictures as we used to either...

In other news:

Tonight Anna had her first "real" bath-we had been doing sponge baths until now, mostly because she didn't really care for her baths, and that's faster. Well, tonight, Daddy and Adele took Cookie to a park, so I had some one-on-one time with a very well rested Anna (despite my habit of putting my foot in my mouth, my last blog post did not at all affect Anna's sleepiness! She definitely made up for her lack of sleep yesterday with all the sleeping she did today!)

Back to the bath-Anna LOVED it! She was a little bit hesitant and started fussing when her feet first touched the water, but by the time she was fully in the tub, her eyes were wide open and I could tell she was loving it! She didn't even mind getting her hair washed! She was still pretty upset afterward, but I think that was because she was cold.

And now she's making cute little baby noises upstairs in her crib, so I think I'll go snuggle her (you know, before she leaves for college or something!) And I promise that my next blog posting will include some pictures!

Catching up on Sleep...

Anna is spending her 1 month birthday asleep...and that's fine with me!

Yesterday Anna had a pretty rough go of it. Adele, Anna and I went to Kroger in the morning, and Anna pretty much fussed the whole time. I ended up rocking her car seat with one arm while pushing the cart with the other. Thankfully Adele was an ANGEL and stayed right by my side. It was just too bad that most of the items that I needed were up too high for Adele to reach, or she would've actually done all of the shopping as well!

Of course, Anna fell asleep as we got to the check out line (Don't get me wrong, that was WONDERFUL!) and as soon as we got home, she was wide awake again. So much for a morning nap!

When she fell asleep later in the afternoon, I put her into her crib, and she slept about 45 minutes there, but that was during the time that she usually takes her LONG (at least 2 hours) nap. Fortunately, when she woke up she was happy, and I was able to get some cleaning done while she watched from her bouncy chair.

As soon as 6:00 rolled around, though, she was a major fuss! She fussed or nursed until almost 11, and was so tired it looked like her poor eyes were propped open with toothpicks! We had our neighbors over for dinner, and their poor ears are probably STILL ringing! At one point, Angelia had Anna asleep and asked me if she should put her down in the bouncy chair, I quickly responded, "Can you just hold her a little bit longer?" knowing that she'd likely wake up the second Angelia put her down. Angelia did hold her a bit longer, then low and behold, as soon as she touched the bouncy chair, she was up screaming again.

By 10:00 I didn't think I could stand up much longer, much less walk, sway and bounce Anna like she wanted. My head was throbbing from her constant screaming. I think that my only saving grace was that I've been there before....and I knew that she would sleep, eventually! (My proof was upstairs sleeping through Anna's fits!)

Somehow, I got her to sleep in the rocking chair in her room. I know it was around 11, but can't be sure of exactly what time it was. At 12:00 the alarm clock went off...oops! I was fiddling with the buttons trying to turn a CD on and must've set the alarm! I realized that we had both fallen asleep in the chair, but didn't want to put her down in her crib yet. The next time I woke up, it was 5:45. Adele was the one crying. I went ahead and tried to wake up Anna to feed her, but she was pretty darn sleepy. At that point, I figured she'd be up soon, so there was no point in putting her in the crib...nope. We both fell back asleep. I tried to wake her up again at 7 with no luck. We didn't get up until 8:30 when Adele woke up for the day, and even then, Anna ate and went right back to sleep.

Finally she did wake up for an hour or so around 11, and then when she got sleepy (around 12:30, maybe), I went upstairs and put her down "sleepy but awake" in her crib. She looked around for a while, and fell asleep on her own...no tears!

Growing up Already?!?!

Anna is sleeping in her crib tonight. I'm a little sad that my baby is growing up, however, she's such a noisy little sleeper I'm glad to get her out of our room!

We kicked Adele out of our room when she turned 1 month old. Anna was 4 weeks yesterday, and will be a month on Saturday. I had some time to get her crib ready today, and she fell asleep fairly early tonight, so I decided it was worth a try!

I didn't take a picture because I didn't want to wake her up, but so far she transitioned well to her crib (she's actually in the co-sleeper, in the crib, but who's counting!) and she should be pretty wiped out since she spent a majority of the evening crying.

Now I've got to get off the internet so we can turn her video monitor (my Mother's Day present!) on!

Daddy's Girls!

Daddy LOVES his girls!

Just to prove it, he planned a fun-filled "mini-vacation" for us in downtown Indy last weekend:
The view from our hotel room:

We put Adele to work at Rock Bottom-she had to make her own dinner! (I think she preferred it that way, she actually ate some of it!)

(She ate the cooked version as well, but we forgot to take a picture)

Our hotel-stay was part of the PBS Kids weekend package. We spent Friday night at the Hilton, and got to do crafts and story time with Super Why and Clifford, then Saturday there was a special breakfast with more PBS characters, and then after breakfast, thee was the PBS Kids in the Park event, which was free to the public.

At first, Adele was excited to see Clifford and Super Why, but she clammed up when it was our turn to see them up close. Doesn't it look like Clifford is sad because Adele won't go see him?

Super Why!

Daddy loves Anna too!

Around 10:00 on Friday night, when Adele STILL wasn't sleeping, we decided to skip breakfast (it was at 8...) We would've had to get up by 6:30 to get ready/check out of the hotel and get to the park on time. Despite trying to put Miss Ellie to bed at 8, she didn't fall asleep until after 10:30...neither did Anna. Anna slept for the remainder of the night (well, except when she woke up to eat...but that was only twice!) Adele, on the other hand, woke up at about 5 and stayed up until 7:30!!! First she wanted to know where Brian was (he started out next to her, but she changed beds numerous times between 8 and 10:30) then she was hungry, but she didn't want the snack I gave her (I'm just thankful I HAD snacks for her that I could find in the middle of the night!)

Despite our rough night, Adele was in a great mood when we got to the park. She wasn't at all timid about meeting McGruff:

Super Why left just as we got to the front of the line, but thankfully Daddy was simultaneously waiting in Princess Presto's line, so Adele got to "meet" her:

We got to see "Dog" from Word World (on the 2nd try-he walked away when we got to the front of the line the first time as well...they had these signs that read, "line for ___ ends here" but instead of bringing it to the END of the line, they would just stick it where the character had been, and walk the character into a tent. I know the characters were hot, but it wasn't a very nice thing to do to little kids without any warning!!!)

The PBS event was fun, but it was hot and muggy out. I ran into two former students and was almost embarrassed because I was literally dripping with sweat...not that they weren't too, but it was still pretty gross. So, we headed to the Children's Museum for lunch...oh, AND to see the cover band "Frontiers" put on a little concert as a part of the opening of the new Rock and Roll exhibit.

Waiting for Mommy to change Anna's diaper:

Adele gets to show our member card:

Kiss!

On Sunday, Daddy abandoned us girls for the majority of the day. Adele was a great big sister, and entertained Anna while I made breakfast. She was teaching Anna about "up" and "down"...it was TOO cute!

Anna was in her bouncy chair, so Adele sat down and starting singing to her. She used her "high" voice to sing to Anna and melted my heart!

Adele looked so cute snuggled under Anna's blanket just before nap time, too bad she got upset with me for taking her picture. She's shouting, "No!" at me:

In Pictures

This is how Anna spends most of her days:

Maybe tonight I'll out the camera at 2 AM to show you how she behaves when I'd like to be sleeping...

And who could forget this cutie???
