Pink Paint and Pajamas

If I haven't mentioned it before, Adele has become pretty opinionated...VERY opinionated. In fact, lately it's been Adele's way or no way.

This morning, for instance, I was taking her over to Miss Jenny's for a "practice" day at daycare. I spent the morning working in my classroom. Adele has become rather fond of her pajamas. She wouldn't let me take her jammies off to get her dressed. I had to hold her down and wrestle her to get the job done. I got her dressed in a cute onesie/skirt combo and thought we were good. Not so much. I went into the kitchen and started making breakfast and heard Adele fussing in the piano room. I went to see what the problem was and found her struggling to get back into her pajama top. She had it over her had, but couldn't get her arms in. I was already running late so I decided to just go with it and give her to Jenny with jammies over he clothes.

We decided to paint her "toy room" while we're still on vacation, so I took Adele with me to the store on Monday night to buy paint. I offered her pink and green paint chips and she actually took a while to decide on pink. Then I handed her-or tried to hand her a different shade of pink and she pushed my hand away and refused to even hold on to it. So when she's eight years old and hates her pink walls she has no one to blame but herself, right?

No pictures today-maybe I'll upload one of the toy room when I'm done painting.

As for other happenings this month, we had a surprise visit (that wasn't a surprise at all) from Tim, Laura and James for Daddy's birthday. Then Memaw and Gramps came for a nice visit. We went back to Connor Prairie (where Adele ate her first ice cream cone!), visited Monkey Joe's and did some other wild and crazy things that I've already forgotten. They left Friday morning (well...almost afternoon) and we took Adele to her first Indians game (our local AAA Baseball team) with Elise that night, and then around 2:00AM, Aunt Katie stopped in for the weekend. We headed back over to Connor Prairie with her, but the ice cream machine was out of ice cream...bummer! This week has been all about getting ready to go back to school...yuck! Yesterday Daddy took Adele to "Touch a Truck" and they had a blast, and after Adele's nap this afternoon, we're off to the zoo!

Tea for Two

Yesterday Adele and I took a trip to Target. Her good behavior (okay, that AND money burning a hole in Mommy's pocket...who wouldn't want to spoil this cutie!) earned her a little "tea for two" set which she proudly carried through the store to the checkout aisle.

When we got home, it was time to make dinner. Daddy, busy with his Mafia complained about having to "babysit" while I made dinner. As I started washing the potatoes, I heard Daddy ask Adele if she wanted to watch a movie. I chuckled at his ploy to keep Adele confined to the TV room and went about my business.

The next thing I knew, I looked into the TV room and was amazed to see this:

That Daddy! He sure sounds convincing with all of his whining about "babysitting" but when it all comes down to it, he loves spending time with our little girl more than just about anything else! Instead of being sad at missing out on Adele's first tea party, my heart melted with pride at my husband and daughter's cute little tea party.

And don't worry, while Daddy cooked the "man food" Adele and I enjoyed a cup of tea too:

Pot-ty Training?

No Place Like Home!

We had a fabulous trip to visit our far away relatives, but I think we're all glad to be home! Daddy and Adele are currently napping, and I've actually finished my dusting already, so I guess the only thing left to do is blog! (I just hope there are still people out there reading this!)

Hi "Buh-Puh!" (Grandpa)

Sharing with Buh-Puh

Helping in Grandma's flower beds:

Playing with Great Aunt Amy and a snapdragon...what fun!

We didn't take too many pictures at the Cottage, but Adele did get to ride in the buggy:

And she did spend a long time trying to figure out this pump!

Daddy, Adele and Cookie arrived at the cottage with Memaw and Gramps while, Aunt Jenny and I along with the other bridesmaids had a "bachelorette weekend" for Katie. Poor Daddy had to watch both girls in a not-very-baby-friendly place. Cookie was an absolute butt, and Adele just wanted to explore. When her aunts and I arrived, things only got slightly better. Adele missed out on the fish fry (bad mommy-I didn't think to remind anyone about her allergies, and they were using peanut oil to fry the food.) Thank goodness for Cousin Carrie who always brings a huge cooler...just in case! The water was green, so no swimming, and Cookie got sent home with Memaw for bad behavior. Adele took a while to fall asleep, but missed out on the fire and fireworks, only to wake up crying inconsolably around midnight. It wasn't the best of trips to the cottage, but I enjoyed being able to bring Adele to a place filled with so many of my favorite childhood memories...maybe it will be a little better next time...

After spending the night at the cottage, we returned to Madison for a couple of fun (sugar?)-filled days at Memaw's:

We took Adele to the House on the Rock, a tourist attraction in Southern Wisconsin. She was quite the trooper as we made our way through the crazy house/museum!

This was her favorite attraction, the Octopus Garden. She danced and danced for anyone who would watch her...and always clapped for herself!

We brought a picnic lunch. Adele helped clean up, and I think I even see a smile...what a nice change from her "serious" look!

Sleeping on Memaw!

We headed back to LaPorte for a yummy pork tenderloin dinner (and for Adele, about a pound of blueberries) and some playtime with cousin James. After another rough night's sleep (Adele went to bed around 10 and was up by 5...ARGH!) I took the girls to a park while we waited for everyone to wake up. We said good bye to Uncle Tim, Aunt Laura and James and headed over to Grandma and Grandpa's for blueberry pancakes. Adele scarfed down more blueberries and we went to Fort LaPlayPorte (what a fun place, I wish I had brought the camera!) and then headed home.

On the way up we hit the twilight zone of McDonalds' (really, you don't even want to know...it was just a mess!), so not wanting to make that mistake again, we opted for Adele's first visit to Chuck-E-Cheese. She had a great time, and honestly, the food wasn't even that bad! Poor Cookie was waiting for us in the car as the temperatures outside rose, so we didn't stay too long, but it was worth it to stretch our legs a little!

We were afraid that she wouldn't like this one, but she ended up riding twice!

Monkey Joe's

As if we didn't have enough to do with Adele this summer with the zoo, Conner Prairie, our library cards, and the YMCA, Daddy managed to find yet another "hotspot" to take Miss Adele to. This one is jut perfect for rainy days (which today wasn't, but that's beside the point!) He heard about this place called Monkey Joe's which is just a warehouse filled with different inflatable bounce houses. It features a "under 3" section, which was just what our daring Miss Adele needs. She is pretty bold, but she's also little (compared to say...5 year olds, that is.) and bounce houses can be pretty dangerous depending on who is using them! We decided to try it out tonight, and after debating whether or not to let Adele "try it out first", bought a 10-visit pass. I'll let the pictures tell whether our investment was a good one or not:

As you can see, Mommy will not be going down the slide again any time soon (that's what Daddies are for!), but Adele had an absolute blast! I suppose I should mention the free WiFi for parents (once she gets older, we might let her play unsupervised!) so Daddy can stay up to date on his mafia wars while Adele bounces her little heart out (But not literally, we hope!)

Can You Hear Me Now?

As you may know, Miss Adele has an obsession with phones. She especially likes to "talk" to her grandparents on them. Today she got a picture of her Memaw in the mail. Here's what she did with it:

Yes, she's trying to "talk" to Memaw on the...picture phone...you know, like a camera phone, but more...developed.

Fishers Freedom Fest!

This weekend was the Fishers Freedom Fest. Tim, Laura and James came down for the weekend and we had a ball. James was even a trooper and didn't let his fever get him down on Sunday (we're hoping it was just his teeth that made him feverish...so far, so good for Miss Adele!)
Corn hole:

Adele was more interested in the bones than in feeding them to the dog, but she finally figured out what she was supposed to do here:

Once again, she wasn't quite sure of the rules, and she plopped all of the ducks into the pond (hey, at least she didn't try to get in herself!) She was supposed to use the squirt gun to push the duck across the pool.

More corn-hole. This time the prize was a piggy bank, or a "lalala" as Adele calls them...Thank you, Sandra Boynton!

Football:

Adele threw the bowling ball straight down on the ground. I helped her out, and what do you know...we got a strike!

Touching the Lombardi Trophy! Go Colts!:

The games were fun, but Adele's favorite part of the day was the corn dog. She ate the entire thing all by herself!

Adele also liked the dog disc competition, and would shout out regularly, "Dog!" as the dogs ran around. She got her first tattoo (a temporary one!), got a heart painted on her arm, colored a beach ball, and played in a pool filled with rice in the children's tent...what fun!

She was a bit fussy during the parade, but there were long breaks in the action and it was hot outside, but she did enjoy the Shriners in their tiny cars, and the tractors (She learned that word this weekend...apparently James does have a positive influence on her vocabulary!) And to end the weekend, Adele slept soundly through the fireworks. You go girl!

We can't wait until next year!
